Cuba's Communist Youth Organization Selects New Official
HAVANA – Cuba's Union of Young Communists, or UJC, elected as its new
national secretary Yuniasky Crespo Vaquero to replace Liudmila Alamo,
who held that position since October 2009, state television reported.
A plenary session of the UJC, the youth affiliate of the ruling
Communist Party of Cuba, or PCC, agreed to "free" Alamo, assigning her
"other responsibilities" that were not specified.
The organization decided to "promote" to the post of secretary the
35-year-old Crespo Vaquero, who up to now has worked as head of the UJC
in the eastern province of Las Tunas.
The new secretary of Cuba's young communists is a graduate in
Marxism-Leninism and History, has practiced as a professor in that field
and has occupied various positions in the organization's base and its
municipal and provincial structures.
The UJC leadership change came during a plenary session presided by Jose
Ramon Machado Ventura, first vice president of the councils of state and
ministers and second secretary of the PCC. EFE
