HAVANA, Cuba (WSAZ/ NBC) -- West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin said
in Havana Saturday that he hopes the normalization of relations between
the United States and Cuba will continue.
Tomblin, who will leave the post shortly, spent two days in Cuba leading
an institutional and business mission to explore future business
opportunities on the island.
President-Elect Donald Trump has been openly opposed to changes made by
his predecessor, Barack Obama, in policies toward the island, and has
threatened to reverse the approach.
Tomblin said that while he can't predict what Trump's administration
will do, he thinks the US and Cuba will continue to advance their
relationship.
"Well I think that, you know, I can't predict what the new president
will do, but I think that the progress that's been made over the last
couple years," said Governor Tomblin, "It probably won't change
overnight, but I think that it will continue to progress. The barriers
of the last 50 years hopefully will come down some day."
