HAVANA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Spanish businessman was sentenced to seven
years in prison in Cuba for unauthorized filming of a documentary about
child prostitution on the island, his attorney said Wednesday.
"I think we should challenge the sentence," defence lawyer Ovidio Venero
told reporters, adding that the final decision would be made by his
defendant, Sebastian Martinez.
The prosecutors initially sought a 15-year sentence, accusing him of
"pandering" and "corruption of minors," but the first charge was
discarded in the process.
Martinez, 57, general manager of a Spanish tourist chain, was arrested
in July 2010 upon his arrival in Havana and then stood trial in a Havana
court.
The case was focused on a documentary "Child Prostitution in Cuba" made
by Martinez with a hidden camera in Cuba in 2008, which was broadcasted
by Spanish television and provoked the Cuban authority.
