"It's time" for freedom and democracy in Cuba, dissident Guillermo
Farinas said Thursday, dedicating his Sakharov human rights prize to
those fighting for the "end of the dictatorship".

"The civilised world, the European Parliament is sending a message to
the Cuban governing class that it's time for democracy and freedom of
thought and expression in Cuba, an end to the dictatorship," Farinas
told AFP.

Speaking from his home in the central city of Santa Clara, Farinas said
he did not believe the award was for him, "but rather for the Cuban
people, who for the past 50 years have been struggling to get out of
this dictatorship, and those us who are the peaceful opposition inside
Cuba are the most visible face."
