JetBlue announced Thursday it had made an agreement with ABC Charters to
add another weekly Tampa-Havana charter flight this summer.
The carrier already runs three weekly flights to Cuba: between Tampa and
Havana on Tuesdays, Tampa and Santa Clara on Wednesdays and Fort
Lauderdale and Havana on Fridays. According to a press release, the
airline is "evaluating opportunities" to add more charter flights.
JetBlue started running flights to Cuba for charter companies in 2011.
Americans who fall under a list of allowed travel categories have been
able to travel to Cuba on charter flights in the past, but the Obama
administration recently announced an easing of travel restrictions.
Doug McGraw, a spokesman for the airline, said charter partners are
expecting even more demand for travel to Cuba as a result.
"They are receiving more calls than ever inquiring and requesting
individual and group travel," he said in an email.
