EVRAZ to Deliver 4,500 Tons of Rails to Cuba
Moscow, February 19 (RHC-Railway Technology) – EVRAZ's West-Siberian
Steel Plant (EVRAZ ZSMK) is set to transport 4,500t of 25m and 12m-long
R50-N rails for General Transport Procurement Company (TRADEX) in Cuba.
The new rails will be used for modernization of the existing access
railroads as part of a Cuban Government's program.
EVRAZ sales vice-president Ilya Shirokobrod said: "Cuba has a high
potential to develop a railway communication network and its government
has already set off on the road to upgrade the existing infrastructure.
"EVRAZ rails have already proven reliability in hot and humid climate.
Considering that this lot is made on a cutting-edge mill, we believe
that our partner will be completely satisfied with the quality of our
rails."
The delivery of the rails is expected to be completed by the end of this
month.
In December last year, TRADEX signed a contract with EVRAZ for the
delivery of these rails. TRADEX officials visited EVRAZ ZSMK's facility
to inspect the production process and evaluate the quality of new rails
earlier this month.
Cuban railway infrastructure deputy director Ledisvan Morales said: "We
are impressed by what we have seen at EVRAZ ZSMK, this is
state-of-the-art equipment and high technology."
