MIAMI -- A group of Cuban academics, policymakers and community leaders
is meeting in Miami to discuss how Germany's experience with
reunification might provide insight into a future reconciliation among
Cubans.

The Cuba Study Group, Miami Dade College and Florida International
University's Cuban Research Institute are hosting on Friday the "Second
Conference on Reconciliation and Change: The German Experience."

The conference will feature Günter Nooke, a representative to Germany
Chancellor Angela Merkel and former federal commissioner of human rights
policy and humanitarian aid. He was also co-founder of an Eastern German
opposition movement.

Cuban-American leaders based in Miami as well as Dagoberto Valdes, the
founder of two magazines in Cuba, will attend.

The conference is part of the Cuba Study Group's Reconciliation Project,
which aims to provide a space for respectful dialogue.
