Ten dissidents, including peace prize nominee to be released by Cuba

The Catholic Roman Church in Cuba has secured the release of ten
high-profile political dissidents, including a Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
The Cuban government is to release ten dissidents, including a Nobel
Peace Prize nominated doctor, according to the Roman Catholic Church.
Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet Gonzalez was arrested in 2003, along with several
dozen other activists during the Cuban government's crackdown on
political opposition to its policies.
Havana's Catholic archdiocese has been working to secure the release of
Gonzalez, along with nine other high-profile prisoners and announced
Friday that a deal had been struck.
Dr. Gonzalez and the other nine will be released and will immediately be
required to leave the country and travel to Spain, enforced exile was
one of the conditions of the release.
Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet Gonzalez founded the Lawton Foundation for Human
Rights and also led the "Friends of Human Rights" group in Cuba.
In February of this year, he was nominated by the European Union, the
United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Hungary for a Nobel Peace
Prize in recognition of his dedication to non-violent social change.
