Twenty-one Cuban migrants stopped in the waters of the Cayman Islands
have told immigration authorities they were on their way to Honduras to
seek political asylum.
But officials say two of the migrants _ a husband and wife _ decided
after the boat was stopped Thursday off Grand Cayman that they didn't
want to continue the sea journey and asked to be returned to Cuba.
The other 19 migrants, including one woman, have not disembarked from
the boat.
The Cayman Islands and Cuba have an agreement that Cuban migrants who
set foot on the British territory's shores are generally returned to
their homeland. If they do not come ashore, they are usually permitted
to continue their journey.
