At least 41 people were injured on Tuesday when a bus flipped over on a
highway in the tourist zone of Soroa, in Cuba's western Pinar del Rio
province, government media reported.
The accident occurred on the road linking the town of Candelaria with
Soroa when an automobile made an improper maneuver that blocked the
bus's path and the driver swerved sharply to avoid the vehicle,
eyewitnesses cited by the state-run AIN news agency said.
Three people were seriously hurt, with head and spinal injuries, and
were taken to the Calixto Garcia Hospital in Havana, health authorities
said.
Three others underwent surgery at Comandante Pinares Hospital in San
Cristobal, Pinar del Rio, while the rest were treated in the emergency
room and other facilities at that hospital.
A week ago, two people died and 40 were injured when a passenger bus
collided with a truck in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. EFE
