A Cuban national, who lived in the Houston area, has been arrested in
Florida in connection to a warrant issued by the Santa Fe Police
Department in Texas.

Carlos Levya-Aguilera, 40, was arrested at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday
at the Miami International Airport.

Santa Fe police charged Levya-Aguilera with credit card abuse and say he
took part in a counterfeit credit card scheme that accounted for more
than $50,000 each week, according to a statement released on Thursday.

Credit unions and banks in the Santa Fe area were affected by the credit
card scheme.

League City and Houston police, the Texas Department of Public Safety,
and the U. S. Secret Service also took part in the investigation into
Levya-Aguilera. The agencies had been trying to find Levya-Aguilera and
had executed search warrants at his last known location.

After Santa Fe police were informed that Levya-Aguilera was trying to
flee from the U.S., they were able to obtain approval from the district
attorney's office to arrange for federal agents with the U.S. Customs
and Border Protection to arrest him at the airport.

During Levya-Aguilera's arrest, Texas DPS agents were in the process of
filing charges in Harris County for additional cases related to him.
Levya-Aguilera is in custody in Miami pending extradition to Texas.
