Caracas - The process of installation of the submarine optical fiber
cable from Venezuela to Cuba is successfully moving ahead after the
installation of a junction box under the Caribbean Sea, assured Friday
the Venezuelan Science and Technology Ministry.
In a statement, the Science and Technology Minister Ricardo Menendez
said the junction will allow to make connections with other Caribbean
countries such as Haiti and the Dominican Republic in a second stage.
This point is at a distance of 507 miles from the beach of Camuri,
Venezuelan state of Vargas, where the installation of the submarine
cable started.
Regarding the work of a total distance of 994 miles that will reach the
eastern coast of Cuba next week, Menendez highlighted its potential to
increase telecommunications between both countries.
The submarine cable valued in 70 million dollars will also include Jamaica.
