Coast Guard: 17 Cuban migrants repatriated
The Associated Press
MIAMI -- Seventeen Cuban migrants have been repatriated after being
interdicted at sea.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the migrants were taken to Bahia de Cabanas,
Cuba, on Saturday. They had been found at sea in two separate incidents
over the last week.
In the first case, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma located a
rustic vessel carrying 12 migrants about 12 miles north of Punta Maisi,
Cuba, on Dec. 4.
A day later, the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas cruise ship spotted
another vessel with six migrants onboard, about 18 miles west of
Freeport, Bahamas.
The migrants were taken to Ocracoke for repatriation. The Coast Guard
says one will be taken to Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for
further processing.
