LOCAL company National Flour Mills (NFM) is looking to export its
products to Cuba and will be heading to the Spanish-speaking country
next month to begin trade talks with Cuban officials.
NFM officials yesterday met with Cuban Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago
Guillermo Vasquez Moreno who committed to helping the company in the
process.
Driving force
NFM chief executive officer Kelvin Mahabir explained that the worsening
foreign exchange situation—which has made it difficult for the company
to access United States dollars to purchase raw materials—was the
driving force behind NFM's move to accelerate the penetration of new
markets, including Cuba.
"Cuba has been a market that has been of interest for us throughout
Trinidad and Tobago and the region for some time and I think the
positives in the last couple of months have been the overtures that we
made," he said during a press conference at the company's office at
Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
