ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A group of 12 Aspen students will travel to Cuba
over spring break as part of a cultural appreciation club.
The Aspen Times reports (http://bit.ly/21gWONg ) that 10 freshman, two
sophomores and one teacher from Aspen High School will fly to Havana at
the end of the month as part of the Cuba Club.
The club was created after a comment last year in teacher Gretchen
Calhoun's geography class and soon morphed into a full-time club, with
plane tickets to Havana and a Cuban itinerary. Students will visit
Ernest Hemingway's house, tour a cigar factory, watch the oldest cannon
in the Western Hemisphere be fired and volunteer at a Cuban convent.
The students also hope to catch the Rolling Stones concert, which will
be held near their hotel.
