44 Undocumented Cubans Detained in Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA – Honduran authorities detained Monday 44 undocumented
Cubans attempting to travel to the United States, police said.
The four women and 40 men were detained in the Caribbean municipality of
Iriona for irregularities in their documentation and immigration status,
a National Police spokesman told reporters.
The migrants were handed over to immigration authorities, who will be
able to issue them a permit to cross the Central American country since
their destination is the United States, the spokesman said.
For Cubans leaving their country in recent years, Honduras has become
the first stage of their travels to reach the United States.
