HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 3 — During last week's presentation of the 2012 Cuban
economic plan and budget to the Council of Ministers, officials also
learned of fictitious shipments of garlic and onions from the provinces
of Mayabeque, Villa Clara and Sancti Spiritus to Havana.
The Granma newspaper reported yesterday the details surrounding four
criminal rings that falsified close to 54 billing reports for 768 tons
of produce for payments of close to 13 million pesos ($520,000 USD).
Among those suspected to have been involved and who are now under arrest
are senior-level management, government officials and other workers in
the fields of commerce and quality control. The cases of these
individuals will now be presented before the courts, reported Granma.
