The 'de-Fidelization' of Cuba has begun

Raul Castro is presiding over the dismantling of big brother Fidel's
legacy, a leading Cuba expert said at the Americas Conference Wednesday.
El Nuevo Herald columnist Carlos Alberto Montaner offered this analysis
in his prepared remarks for a keynote luncheon address to the region's
political and business leaders at the conclusion of the two-day
conference at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.
``We are in the first phase of the de-Fidelization of the country,
without even waiting for the physical disappearance of the maximum
leader,'' he said.
``In the Russia of Stalin, there was not criticism of his economic
nonsense while the dictator lived. With Fidel, as a consequence of his
illness and, curiously, recovery, the process of criticism and
demolition as begun beforehand while he is alive and watching the
spectacle.''
His remarks came just days after Cuba's leader announced it would let a
half-million employees go from government jobs to seek work in the
island's tiny private sector.
