House Speaker, Hon. Julianna O'Connor Connolly wants migrants to receive
help to continue their journey, saying she never supported Cayman's
repatriation agreement with Cuba.

The Cayman Brac MLA made her comments on Facebook after the latest boat
load of Cubans sailed into waters off the sister isle yesterday
afternoon (12 March), because of an engine failure.

We're told the engine died just shortly after leaving Cuba and had to be
towed into safe harbour once in our waters. Cayman 27 also understands
the 37 migrants have depleted their food and water stores.

Immigration officials confirm the group, which includes eight women, had
been travelling for about a week and are all in good health.

Four of the migrants have decided to end their journey in Cayman Brac
and will be transported to the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) in
Grand Cayman.

As no assistance can be offered under Cayman's agreement with Cuba,
immigration officials may have to step in and transport the entire group
to the IDC for repatriation.
