Cuba Frees Jailed Dissident Without Forcing Exile

Cuba Frees Jailed Dissident Without Forcing Exile

Meanwhile over in Cuba another jailed political prisoner has been set
free and is reportedly on parole.

Arnaldo Ramos Lauzurique has been released after being arrested and then
imprisoned with 74 other dissidents in a 2003 crackdown on government
opponents.
Lauzurique who is 68, was one of 13 remaining in jail who refused to go
into exile in Spain in exchange for their freedom.
The government will let him stay in the country but Lauzurique says he
plans to resume his non-violent activism.
This release may signal that Cuba will soon free the remaining 12
political prisoners still in jail for rejecting the government deal.
